Aviva’s phone rang at 5:45 am, making Deborah nearly fall out of the bed.
“Shit,” she heard Aviva curse while trying to find the offending device from under the pile of clothes and muttering something about forgetting to deactivate the daily alarm.
Deborah absently licked her lips, searching for a taste of the other woman lingering there as she snuggled Aviva from behind, urging her to slip back under the covers.
She was falling asleep again when Aviva turned around in her arms facing her, waking her completely.
“Deborah. Hey, wake up.”
“Hmmmmm?”
“I need to go.”
“No, you don’t.”
“Nathan is going to get up and wonder where I am.”
“He is completely asleep and/or hungover!”
“Yeah, but the kids…”
“Are with the nanny, also asleep! Don’t go, it’s Saturday morning. Like, very early in the morning. The sun is not even up!”
“Sure it is, and the–”
“Okay, you asked for it!” Without waiting for the answer, Deborah silenced her with a kiss.
Unlike the night before, this kiss was not hungry or aggressive. It was soft, calm; she was taking her time getting to know every corner of Aviva’s mouth, running her hands everywhere they could reach, with the calm and serenity that came with the knowledge that, at least for the moment, Aviva was hers. For a person who had to be in control of every tiny aspect of what was going on around her, submission was not an option and Deborah knew it. She would make the most of it while it lasted.
“Deborah,” Aviva interrupted.
“What,” she answered, sounding a little annoyed.
“Get on your back.”
“What?” she said again, her annoyance completely gone.
“On your back. Now.”
“Yes, boss.” And she did.
Aviva was flushed panting slightly when she caught Deborah’s arms and pulled them up over her head. She kissed her slowly, tauntingly, nuzzling her neck, breathing to her ear, gently lowering down Deborah’s breasts, while her hands slid along Deborah’s midriff and thighs, teasingly, or perhaps shyly, bypassing the spot where she was needed the most.
Sensing Aviva’s hesitation, Deborah put her hand on top of Aviva’s, slyly guiding her through her folds, leading her to find a rhythm that matched them both. Deborah’s hair was damp; her head thrown back and her eyes closed, as she just lay back and… felt.
“Open your eyes. I want you to see me,” Aviva said trying to sound confident, but sounding shaky and nervous.
Deborah opened them immediately and locked her gaze with Aviva’s until it was too much. She came, exhaling loudly, throwing her head back and closing her eyes again.
Panting slightly and still shivering, Deborah crawled into Aviva’s embrace, hoping to catch her breath.
—
For the second time that morning Aviva’s cellphone woke them up, this time with a song Deborah recognized as Nathan’s ringtone.
Aviva told him not to worry. She’d been taking care of Deborah, who felt a little ill after dinner, but she would be home shortly. Neither woman spoke for a while until Deborah couldn’t stand the silence any longer.
“Come with me,” she said with her voice a little raspy, her lips brushing Aviva’s ear. “We can leave this city; go somewhere no one knows us.”
Aviva sighed loudly, not bothering to answer.
“I know, I know. But I had to ask; no regrets and all that,” Deborah said with a sigh.
“You know it’s not possible.”
“I do.”
Aviva chuckled sadly, gave Deborah a soft peck and got out of the bed.
Deborah watched Aviva’s profile as she gathered her clothes from the floor and put them on. She turned around, gave her an apologetic look, took her purse and left.
—
Deborah found the letter on her way out and read it on her way to work, nearly falling down when she realized what it was about. Finally, after almost a year of applying and sending recommendation letters and essays about transcendental issues, she had been accepted with a partial scholarship to the Conflict Resolution MA program at the University of Jerusalem, starting the following October.
Still unsure if it was the worst timing ever or if it was a blessing in disguise, she decided then and there to go. This was the opportunity she’d been waiting for a long time, and her current situation hurt more than she cared to admit.
She decided to wait for a month before giving the Nathan her notice. Two more months, and she’d be gone. That would give Nathan enough time to find a replacement, and leave Deborah enough time to have the conversation she was vehemently going to avoid for as long as possible.

Celebrating 10 Years & Marking the End of An Amazing Project
You may not tell your mom that you’re going to a live Jewrotica reading (or whatever clever name you will dub these events) but you will tell your friends. However, both would be jealous if they find out that they missed it. I think it will only be a matter of time before Jewrotica helps us reclaim the term “Dirty Jew” the way rap music has done for “The ‘N’ Word.” I know I am now proud to be a Dirty Jew!
Jewrotica is awesome. It expands the mind and for people who were raised with narrow views on sexuality. Whether you are Jewish or not, or in different sects of Judaism like Orthodox, Conservative or Reform, no matter what your background or where you’re from, Jewrotica gets you to see Judaism and how it relates to sexuality in new ways. I really appreciate Ayo being here and helping us learn different ways to connect with our sexuality.
Bedside Reading with Jewrotica was funny, sexy, and hot all at once. The readings were honest about all kinds of sexuality, but the highlight of the evening was definitely the confessions, written by audience participants. Nobody knew who wrote them, and most were tell-alls that would make your bubbe blush. Unless your bubbe was very, very cool. Then maybe she’d make YOU blush!
I’m into Jewrotica. I went in for my second circumcision.
Jewrotica rocks. It’s funny, it’s informative, it’s sexy, it’s interesting. Check it out!
I stepped out of my comfort zone to be a part of this. I was glad to open up the topic of sexuality in my community. We are trying to build a safe space to talk about sex. The result I am most happy about coming from this event is that hopefully now my friends know they can come and talk to me, that I can be their ‘safe space’.
Jewrotica is something that the community has needed for a long time so that people can actually learn, express and share and have good relationships without having to stumble through life. Check out the site and learn something. Have fun!
I attended and participated in last month’s Jewrotica event. The engaging performers and Ayo, our inviting host, inspired the audience to feel like one big community. What a great way to inspire our community to embrace sex as a beautiful thing that can be fun, exciting, sacred, sensual, ridiculous, scary and everything in between!
Jewrotica is a great way to ask interesting questions about the interplay between sensuality and Jewish wisdom. Check it out.
Jewrotica was everything I had dreamed of and more: sexy attendees, tantalizing confessions, and well-written literature to boot! More importantly, it empowers us Jews to reach inside and own our sexy selves and heritage!
