The sun was setting. Sarah could tell because the light coming through her small bathroom window was orange-hued and glowing, almost otherworldly. Sarah was naked, luxuriating in the bathtub. She looked forward to this “me” time she got every month. A minimum of eighteen blessed minutes soaking in the tub, all alone, doing nothing except feeling the hot water on her naked skin soothe away the stress of the week. Sarah sighed. Soon enough she would start her preparations, buffing her heels, shaving her legs, scrubbing her skin until it felt tingly and new.
She sometimes found the act of preparing to go to the mikvah as erotic as what always came after her monthly dunk in its waters. Sarah ran her fingers up and down her body, luxuriating in the feeling of being touched, even if she was the one doing the touching for now. Her body ached for human contact. She hadn’t touched Avi, shared a bed with him, let alone had sex in twelve whole days, same as every month when they kept separate from one another during her period, plus seven extra days. While that might not sound like a lot to most couples, going that long every month without any physical contact at all was something Sarah found very trying.
Sarah closed her hands around her breasts, getting excited about feeling Avi’s hands squeezing and molding them. She pinched her nipples, imagining that he was suckling them. But just as soon as she’d begun to get herself aroused, she stopped. She knew that she could bring herself to orgasm here in the tub all alone. She’d certainly done it enough times, but today was different – it was only a matter of a few hours until she could have the real thing, and Sarah knew it was worth waiting for. She would just tease herself a little bit, get revved up for tonight, she thought, as her fingers found their way between her legs and she stroked herself, letting the warm water coat her, inside and out. She removed her fingers just before she took herself over the edge, leaving herself breathless and aroused.
She stood up, let the water drain out of the tub, and began to soap her body, to shampoo her hair. She turned on the shower and rinsed herself clean, then climbed out of the tub and rubbed herself dry with a towel. She looked at herself in the mirror, not just to check for any blemishes, as was required, but also for herself…she liked that she could still look in the mirror and be happy with what she saw. Sure, there were stretch marks and pockets of cellulite here and there, but for the most part, she didn’t look half bad naked, and she was proud of that.
As she combed through her hair and tucked it into a beret, leaving it wet so she wouldn’t have to wash it again later at the mikvah, she thought about what she would take with her tonight. She got dressed quickly, in a comfy cotton skirt and long sleeve top, and then brooded over her lingerie drawer. Decisions, decisions. She always paid more attention to what sexy lingerie she shoved into her purse to take with her than what she wore on top. Sarah loved going to the mikvah wearing normal cotton undies and her usual skin-tone bra, but coming home, clean and pure and wearing a hot red lacy thong and red satin push-up bra. Or should she take her black set, the sheer one where her nipples showed, or the purple one that fastened in bows on either side of her hips, and could be undone with one tug, hmmm…

Celebrating 10 Years & Marking the End of An Amazing Project
I had a great time deejaying at the Jewrotica event at Columbia University. The live readings were hilarious, informative, and in some cases, deeply moving. I know that I, along with many of my AEPi fraternity brothers, loved being able to connect our Judaism and our sexuality in a way that made all of us feel comfortable and welcome. I look forward to being a part of this again in the future!
At Jewrotica’s Evening of Bedside Readings, students declaimed monologues on sexual encounters that had a Jewish twist. At Columbia/Barnard Hillel, the speakers pushed their own boundaries by performing a range of explicit narratives that challenged how the audience thought of the relationship to Judaism and sex. During the speakers’ preparation, the arguments about which narratives would be appropriate forced students to take a stand and voice their opinion on their own beliefs about Judaism an… Read more
Learning about sex and what’s right and wrong when it comes to sex from a Biblical standpoint was an eye opening experience. I completely enjoyed it and think something like this could be a very cool thing to bring to even high school aged Jewish youth groups.
I’m Heshy Fried from Frum Satire and I am very, very frum. And I completely support Jewrotica – it’s doing a service to the frum community. We need some sort of kosher sexual education. Jewrotica even has a system that allows frum filters to filter out certain things to make it PG for us. It’s mamish Torah. It’s like The Little Midrash Says for sex.
The people behind Jewrotica are quite quality! I have confidence that any project these folks take on will be equally quality.
While many people fear the “sex talk,” Jewrotica offers an opportunity for writers and audiences to speak about sexuality in a open and safe space. When I attended a Jewrotica reading, I heard stories that reminded me that love takes many forms, and that expressing it is a vital part of who we are as a people.
My opinion on Jewrotica is: It’s sexy. It’s awesome. It’s Judaism to the next level. It’s what we should all be getting into!
I’m into Jewrotica. I went in for my second circumcision.
I stepped out of my comfort zone to be a part of this. I was glad to open up the topic of sexuality in my community. We are trying to build a safe space to talk about sex. The result I am most happy about coming from this event is that hopefully now my friends know they can come and talk to me, that I can be their ‘safe space’.
Jewrotica is a great way to ask interesting questions about the interplay between sensuality and Jewish wisdom. Check it out.
