Rated PGAcross the void that divides,
Across insurmountable space,
Across that chasm,
You glimpsed me,
Sending a bolt of charged emotion
Out across the gap
Illuminating the grey shadows of our lives.
It hit me straight in the chest
Leaving me breathless
Gasping for air
Gasping for meaning
Gasping for you.

Across the void of impossibilities
Your eyes sparkled with infinite potential,
The static causing me to stir and rise.
Your smile, like a new moon,
Hanging in the firmament
Signaling a beginning of beginnings.
Your body, supple and comely,
Hungry for love
Thirsty for passion
Yearning for desire.

Across the void we touched –
A finger, a brush, a breath, a laugh –
Soul touching soul,
Being to angelic being,
Divine to Divine.
And as the chasm collapsed,
And the waters flowed,
We immersed ourselves
In the pool of Oneness,
In the womb of knowing,
In the seed of love.

*The Void is a reference to the Halal HaPanuwi, the Empty Space, central to the cosmology of Lurianic kabbalah and the theology of Reb Nachman of Breslov. It is the space where all potential resides, where all is possible, where all creativity springs from. The recent Israeli film ‘Filling the Void’ powerfully plays off these themes.

I am a late-comer to poetry especially Jewish-laced love poetry. In the last two years I have written about 50 such poems that I am now trying to publish under the title - The Metaphysics of Love. They are about love - love for women as a metaphor for the Divine love - sometimes employing very erotic images inspired by the Song of Songs and Kabbalistic literature.
