Sex, Not Porn
Though I still subscribe to the personal and religious belief that sex is private, the fact remains that porn is both
a) widely available
b) not going away
So while I won’t be sending Gallop any homemade tributes to the Joy of Sex, I think it’s important that an antidote exists for the poison that is mainstream, commercial, for-men-by-men hardcore pornography. That’s why I’m glad that Jewrotica has opened up the conversation to the Jewish community. It’s a talkier, niche version of Gallop’s project, offering a space for real people looking for real and different ways to have, think about, agonize over, enjoy, and discuss sex. Most importantly, it offers a nuanced Jewish framework for these conversations. Orthodox, Reconstructionist, off the derech, baalei tshuva, in-between: at Jewrotica, we’re people, not labels. And–like Gallop–we’re about sex, not porn.
