The Wadi of Kelt*

Naked and smooth
The dark terrain of your body
Curves out to the end of sight;
Uplifted fault lines quivering
In layers of timeless motion;
Eroded hopes plunging into the darkness
Of fallen dreams;
Sinews and toned muscles
Balanced in uneasy repose;
A formidable landscape of withering love
Where you grip the ground firm,
In the sky of your blue gaze.
And down, deep down there,
In the crack, the fissure, the opening,
In the mouth of you – mother of earth –
Amongst the bushes and thorns,
Runs the thin stream of waters,
Still alive and giggling,
Nourishing and refreshing,
Wanting and wanted.
Wanting and wanted.

*Wadi Kelt is a breathtakingly beautiful desert wadi (valley) near Jerusalem. It is possible to walk from there all the way down to Jericho and the Dead Sea following the stream that flows all year round.

I am a late-comer to poetry especially Jewish-laced love poetry. In the last two years I have written about 50 such poems that I am now trying to publish under the title - The Metaphysics of Love. They are about love - love for women as a metaphor for the Divine love - sometimes employing very erotic images inspired by the Song of Songs and Kabbalistic literature.
