A Kickoff Tour Success

Rated PGWe have officially migrated from online community to thriving movement with live meet-ups and gatherings!

Over the past two months, I had the delight of meeting many of you – our readers, writers and fans – as I traveled from Jerusalem to New York to California and finally back to Texas with Jewrotica workshops and programs. To date, we have presented eight Jewrotica programs to audiences as small as ten and as large as 300, reaching over 800 people with Jewrotica’s sex-positive and Judaism-positive message!

Our most popular program has been the “Evening of Jewrotica: Bedside Reading” event, a dynamic show and celebration that combines readings, confessions, mixers, and Jewish learning experiences in a fun, inclusive and edgy environment. Our “Sex in the Jewish Tradition / Kedoshim Tehiyu” program has provided an interesting and engaging format for the discussion of Jewish-based values like Kavod HaBriyot, consent and boundaries.

Our kick-off workshop was held in the Sarah Lawrence College library’s “pillow room”, creating an environment of trust and open conversation. One participant amongst the student attendees was a Hasidic Jew who trekked all the way from Brooklyn to Westchester to check out Jewrotica for himself. His remark? “Wow. I’ve never studied Torah like that before. That was awesome!”

Jewrotica is making its southern hemisphere debut next month in a presentation at Limmud Oz in Australia, followed by an appearance at the Israeli Presidential Conference in Jerusalem where Jewrotica mastermind David Abitbol will sit on a panel about Judaism and Sexuality alongside the one and only Dr. Ruth!

The international media has been a buzz about our tour with recent publicity in Der Spiegel and on the cover of DAVID Magazine. We’ve already received invitations to University of Maryland and University of Florida in the Fall with a possible evening of programming at TribeFest in Spring 2014.
