Announcing the 2013 Jewrotica North American Tour

From The Desk Of New
Friends,

Rated PGOver the past four months, Jewrotica has successfully started a dynamic conversation about Judaism and sexuality, and stirred up quite a bit of excitement in the media. But Jewrotica is more than a website and an online community – it’s a movement. We have received requests from readers, educators and community leaders for Jewrotica events, curriculums and even retreats. Each of those options presents a world of opportunities, but – in order to keep our quality of content high – we are going to tackle those exciting areas one step at a time. Our current focus and our next step is to bring our community together for fun, sexy, edgy, live and – yes – educational workshops and events.

We have been hard at work developing a series of programs and offerings, including:

    – Kedoshim Tehiyu: Sex Ed 101 Jewish-Style
    – Sex in the Jewish Tradition: A Dynamic and Interactive Program
    – Sex in the 21st Century: Is Judaism Still Relevant?
    – An Evening of Jewrotica: Bedside Reading

We debuted our first Jewrotica program last week at our international launch in Jerusalem! The audience was a group of Americans and Israelis in their 20s-40s from varying religious backgrounds and observances. I was a bit apprehensive about what the reception would be, but the group was captivated and lively. We gave a taste of each workshop, but primarily focused on Sex in the Jewish Tradition and explored four enticing vignettes and case studies from the Tanach: The First Roleplay, The First Cougar, The First S&M Scene and The First Exhibitionist. Judaism buffs out there, can you guess which story is which?!

The group explored each topic and the themes that could be discerned through the learning of these Biblical stories. The conversation went deep and soon segued to a modern discussion about healthy relationships, infidelity, casual sex, the importance (or lack thereof) of reputation and kink (non-traditional sexual practices). I was thrilled that the first program was such a success – if it can succeed in Jerusalem, it can be a hit anywhere!

We have just designed some rockin’ new swag (stickers and t-shirts) that debut two of our new slogans. One is for our educational Consent is Sexy campaign, and I think that the second will quickly become Maimonides’ fourteenth principle of faith: I Believe in Original Mitzvah. You’ll be able to snag these goodies (and giveaways!) at our upcoming Jewrotica events.

Speaking of upcoming events, I am delighted to announce our Jewrotica 2013 North American Tour. We have been invited to present at Yale University’s Sex Week and at the Jewlicious Festival this March, where I will be headlining the weekend alongside Rabbi Shmuley Boteach of Kosher Sex.

I will be available for programming on the East Coast between March 3rd and March 7th, and available for programming in southern California between March 8th and March 14th. We are currently accepting bookings for the Spring, Summer and Fall and would love to work with you to create a dynamic program for your community.
