So there they were, Shmuley and Esther, driving off to a Jewish nudist colony in the Berkshires. There was no internet and questionable cellphone reception. Esther had worn her most modest outfit, as if to shield herself from the nakedness of her soon-to-be neighbors. When they got there, Shmuley was greeted by a man whose grey beard and hair flowed down to his knees. “I’m Al”, he said, extending his hand to Shmuley – knowing enough, Shmuley noticed, not to extend Esther the same courtesy. The house was nice enough: It had a guest bedroom and bathroom, and the dining room was big enough to host shabbat meals.
That first week at shul, Shmuley gave a speech about the Garden: “God’s first words to man are, “Eat from all the fruits of the garden”. Why? Because God created man to take pleasure from the treasures of this world. But, God also said, “Do not eat from the tree of knowledge”, for we are commanded to take pleasure within the confines of God’s commandments – commandments that can help us channel our physical needs into a meaningful life, which is ultimately the most pleasurable thing of all.” Afterwards, all forty of the community’s members came over for dinner. Esther refused to look any of the guests in the eye; she kept on swerving to avoid coming into contact with the naked bodies, at one point spilling chicken soup all over her favorite dress.
Still, things were going well: By the end of the month, Shmuley had twenty people attending his Friday night shindigs, and ten coming to his lectures about “Experiencing the Divine: Parsha through Yoga” that he gave during the week. He met with Al the night before, and together, they would discuss which yoga moves corresponded to which midrashim. During the lectures, Al would demonstrate, which is just as well because Shmuley could not remember the last time he had used his hips in public.
Esther seemed slightly more withdrawn and still kept looking down whenever she addressed the neighbors (which didn’t make any sense – wasn’t that precisely were the forbidden things were located?), but Shmuley was sure she’d come around – after all, it had taken him six months of marriage to convince her to give him a blow-job. Sometimes, she still refused to swallow.

Celebrating 10 Years & Marking the End of An Amazing Project
I’m so glad that Jewrotica is represented here at Jewlicious! It’s bringing voices that need to be heard in the Jewish discussion and Jewish climate environment.
I love the inclusiveness – there is something for everyone, in and out of the Jewish community.
You may not tell your mom that you’re going to a live Jewrotica reading (or whatever clever name you will dub these events) but you will tell your friends. However, both would be jealous if they find out that they missed it. I think it will only be a matter of time before Jewrotica helps us reclaim the term “Dirty Jew” the way rap music has done for “The ‘N’ Word.” I know I am now proud to be a Dirty Jew!
At Jewrotica’s Evening of Bedside Readings, students declaimed monologues on sexual encounters that had a Jewish twist. At Columbia/Barnard Hillel, the speakers pushed their own boundaries by performing a range of explicit narratives that challenged how the audience thought of the relationship to Judaism and sex. During the speakers’ preparation, the arguments about which narratives would be appropriate forced students to take a stand and voice their opinion on their own beliefs about Judaism an… Read more
I’m into Jewrotica. I went in for my second circumcision.
While many people fear the “sex talk,” Jewrotica offers an opportunity for writers and audiences to speak about sexuality in a open and safe space. When I attended a Jewrotica reading, I heard stories that reminded me that love takes many forms, and that expressing it is a vital part of who we are as a people.
Jewrotica is something that the community has needed for a long time so that people can actually learn, express and share and have good relationships without having to stumble through life. Check out the site and learn something. Have fun!
Such an amazing experience! The Sarah Lawrence Jewrotica workshop was more than I could have ever expected – a comfortable, safe, sultry environment where participants clearly felt good about sharing or listening to each other’s intimate experiences and relating them to sexy stories from the Torah. From the moment the workshop began, Ayo had a sweet presence that was kinetic and spread around the room; her storytelling abilities had everyone enraptured and made the conversation topics relata… Read more
My opinion on Jewrotica is: It’s sexy. It’s awesome. It’s Judaism to the next level. It’s what we should all be getting into!
I’m Heshy Fried from Frum Satire and I am very, very frum. And I completely support Jewrotica – it’s doing a service to the frum community. We need some sort of kosher sexual education. Jewrotica even has a system that allows frum filters to filter out certain things to make it PG for us. It’s mamish Torah. It’s like The Little Midrash Says for sex.
